finished!

I thought the day would never come, but I am done applying for grad-school. Just mailed off the last of my applications 30 minutes ago. yay! Cost my $13.65 because it's got to get to Seattle by Wednesday and I didn't want to risk priority mail. I never would have guessed how much money it costs to apply to grad-school, soon I'm going to add up a total cost figure it is up there. Ho-hum, now I have lots of free-time, although I should probably find a job for the next 6 months. Yeah, that would be good.

Update: total application fees were $350, total GRE testing fees $245, total mailing
fees were $26.15. GRAND TOTAL: $621.15!! It should not cost that much to apply. And why are there such big descrepancies between app fees for instance Princeton is merely $55 whereas MIT charges $70. MIT just likes to be a dick about everything.

I paid somewhere near $70 for Princeton, but I did apply after Dec 1st so I guess I can't complain.

It cost me approximately $1500 to apply to grad school.

Damn! I guess I can't complain. You must have applied to a bunch more schools. I pretty much picked 6 and then figured that was all the paperwork I could deal with and quit there. Although I did realize I left out a few things after I added up my total--such as score reporting fees.

I read your journal, or some of it--very cool. I guess you noticed I added you. I'm very jealous that you are already getting flown out to places. So far I haven't gotten anything like that. They must really love you!

Re:
I took the GREs twice, so that added to it. I also applied to 9 schools. Back when I started applying I was worried as hell that I wouldn't get in anywhere; looks like I was wrong.

They seem to. I completed three B.S.s in three and a half years, and am graduating magna cum laude. Apparently this makes me flight-worthy.

I like your journal as well.

wow, that's quite an accomplishment. Which three? I only have two, physics and computer engineering; and to tell the truth I'm not sure I'll ever use the latter again. At least not professionally. I graduated summa cum laude so at least I've got one (minor) thing on ya! ;)

Yeah, I am starting to wish I applied to a few more, even though I'm not sure I could have imagined doing more paperwork. I still haven't gotten any offers or flights yet. I got one rejection so far, but it was from Princeton and I was already 95% sure I'd get rejected anyway. I hope the ones I was sure I'd get accepted to come through now :)

Physics. I'm applying to UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz... I looked at San Diego briefly, cause it would be an awesome city to live in, but it didn't fit my particular interests (elementary particle theory) as well as the other two. I also applied to University of Washington, Boston University, and MIT (another long shot). I get more and more nervous every day. :(

I think I have an irrational dislike for Santa Barbara (the city), because I went there with my parents one time and was very bored and it seemed to be mostly old folks. (My impressions are probably completely groundless... but maybe that caused me to overlook it as an option).
