upcoming trips

I didn't mention this last week when I found out, but now Boston U has accepted me too. (Two down, three more to go!) They're flying me out there this weekend so I've been busy making travel plans. Apparently, they've got a tour of Boston scheduled as well as the usual meeting and fraternizing with profs & grad students. I'll be staying in the Beacon Inn which looks pretty cool, very Boston. Instead of room numbers, the rooms have names like "Paul Revere","Boston Tea Party", "Bunker Hill","John Hancock" (http://www.beaconinn.com/rooms.html) hehe. This so makes it worth spending the money to apply, even if I don't go there. UCSC is giving me a choice of whether to stay in a hotel or with a grad student in April; I think I'm actually going to go for the grad student in that case, that should give me a much better idea of what it's like there.

Congratulations!

I meant to congratulate you when you made your post on UCSC, but I forgot.

Thanks!

I didn't figure it out till recently, but I guess it works opposite for physics than for chem or bio; they do the acceptance first and then the visiting later rather than the other way around. It makes for a lot less anxiety on the part of the visiting applicant, and probably costs less for the school.

congrats! small world again - I grew up on Beacon Hill in Boston (first 14 years of my life!), it's really a great city. BU apparently does a bunch of cross-town collaborations with Harvard and MIT, at least in physics, which is pretty cool. Definitely check out their supercomputer center there - it's a trip: the whole floor it's on seems to be vaguely... humming

Wow you are just everywhere at once. Is there any college you're not intimately familiar with? :)
