:wumpscut:

So... for the past 2 weeks I've been downloading more and more :wumpscut:, and it seems to be quickly becoming my new favorite band/artist. I had heard of the name long long ago, but for some reason never listened to it. Or if I did I hadn't paid enough attention.

My favorite artist for the past 2.5 years has been Leonard Cohen; funny how quickly my tastes shift when I find something new... I have this sort of "love at first sight" reaction to certain bands. I knew almost immediately that Cohen would replace Cruxshadows, Kid Rock, and Lords of Acid which had all been previous favorites. And that indeed turned out to be true. And now I have the same feeling about :wumpscut:, even though so far I only have 2 of their albums plus a few other songs here and there. It also crossed my mind that I might want a :wumpscut: tatoo; saw a picture of one somewhere and it piqued my interest. I must of course thank sapience once again for her magnificent Bar Sin CD's which happened to include 2 :wumpscut: tracks, otherwise I never would have been turned on to them in the first place!

Went to Love Parade this weekend with icarusdiver. A huge outdoor electronic music festival; they had a lot cool stuff, but particularly this one guy who was doing some live funky electro mixing... mixed in his Didgeridoo right into the track...incredible! Too bad I don't remember his name or the float. Carl Cox was there too, who we watched for a while; which led us to realizing we'd both seen him at the same rave in Atlanta circa 2001 at the Tabernacle... great coincidence! My only regret is that we didn't happen to catch Paul Van Dyke who was also there somewhere, although I'm not sure where or when he was supposed to come on. (I generally prefer trance to house, although I enjoy just about any kind of electronic music as long as it's done well.)

Tomorrow I'm TA'ing the first of my two Intro to Logic discussion sections, so I'm trying to make up some example sentences to formalize on the board... class starts at 8:30am in the morning, too early. At least I'm no longer taking any classes, though, so my schedule is really flexible which is awesome. Meanwhile, there seems to be some progress being made in getting a UCSC Transhumanist club started here--might be meeting on Friday to write up a constitution--looks like it's going to be somewhat modelled after Stanford's Transhumanist Association; they appear to get a lot of prominent speakers on the subject to come (Aubrey de Grey, Ray Kurzweil, etc.).

funny I didn't realize wumpscut was a band.

I too like trance, saw Armin Van Buren 'perform' which was good.

USCS Trans! rock (or was that morph?) on!

Well, it is just one guy--Rudy Ratzinger--but I often refer to such projects as bands, just out of habit. Especially when using phrases such as "favorite band"... I should probably say "favorite artist" but that sounds weird for other reasons.

Funny, I was there too. I think PVD was only supposed to be in the after party (e.g. "the part you pay $50 for").

Hm, I saw Ray Kurzweil speak once.

Good luck at your TAships! I'm sure they'll be great.

I think Zapper was the guy doing the live set. Yeah, he was amazing.
