richard feynman is love
brought to you by the isLove Generator

I'm busy writing up everything we've been working on during the past 6 months, and grading finals. This should take me the next 2 days, and after that... SPRING BREAK! I'm already starting to feel the spring love.

I got "old punk rock is love", which is amazing since I also thought the questions were unprobing, but have "old punk rock" listed as a LJ interest.

Oh, I feel so dumb (slaps head). Of course... it looks at your interests! Cheap and dirty trick. :)

I guess "radically optimistic nihilism is love" would've been more obvious :P. I wonder if it filters out red flags like that.

Of course, I feel dumber, being second in line and not realizing it. I was actually going to say the first time, "It must be using code to read your mind." Almost!

Yeah, I was wondering if it picks things which have above a certain threshold of other users interested in it. The one I saw that I clicked on today said "knowledge is love" which is about as general an interest as you can get. Perhaps you and I only happened to figure it out because it gave us both interests which were somewhat rarer.

It's actually interesting how the trick serves as a built in survival mechanism for the meme. I've seen that "is love" thing popping up everywhere (for at least a year, maybe more), but never bothered to click on it because usually I didn't find the things it put in front of "is love" particularly intriguing. But for some reason today, completely on a whim, I decided to see what it was. And then felt surprised and "special" when it gave me something I'm interested in, like it knew me too well. No doubt, this is the reason why it's managed to spread so successfully. Pretty neat, when you think about it!

Or I guess I should say should have figured it out. I don't think I would have gotten it if I hadn't had your 2nd datapoint to match up with mine, and if you hadn't said "it was on my interests list" which literally put the idea right into my head. Nothing like a little unconscious teamwork to solve a mystery.

just to set the record straight
I was playing with it again just now and got "future internet is love", and I'm the only one interested in that. Such interests are pretty rare though (indeed, LJ has a feature to easily include friends' interests as your own, and I've observed such spreading happening), so it's not surprising that it would still survive.

Now I have another wonder: What percentage of people wearing these know how it works?

Hey, I have no clue what exactly is happening for Spring Break but it involves Derek and driving past Santa Cruz on our way to Big Sur ... will I actually make it to Santa Cruz? that would be crazy awesome!

What are you up to for Spring Break?

I don't know, my car has an oil leak.
if (leak) {We get stuck somewhere and have to fend for ourselves. Eating each other for sustenance.}

Else {yeah}

Tell d you want to go to Scruz. Jeff wants the lot of us here too. Jeff wants a lot of things.

I am going to be in CA this May hanging out and visiting people. Think you might have time to see me?

Cool... I don't know how busy I'll be yet, but we should at least have dinner. And if you need a place to stay for a night or so, my couch is available. Let me know when you'll be here. Oh, and congrats on UNC!

Not that this has anything to do with spring break or the meme but I thought you should know that there was a terrible mistake wherein I tried to remove myself from my friends list and accidentally removed you for a brief period of time but later noticed that my own entries still appeared on my friends page so I corrected the error. Just thought I should let you know so you didn't think that any of my recent complaining had anything to do with you.

Hope you have fun on break, good luck.

Ahhh, good thing you mentioned something. I was wondering if I did something to offend you, or if I didn't post often enough or too much. I guess I should have just asked. Glad to hear it was a mistake! :)
