the best kind of party...

...is the kind that degenerates (progenerates?) into long hours of intense conversation between a handful of people in a circle.

I suppose this is why I used to like raves so much. But the problem there is, none of the people who show up have any clue what they're talking about.

Last night was the best of both worlds. I didn't feel that I had to dumb anything down at all, and we talked about everything from the semantic shift of words in languages to the various merits (and pitfalls) of buddhism, hinduism, christianity, islam, and objectivism. There was a general consensus that Hunter S. Thompson was right on with his suggestion that "there's nobody tending the light at the end of the tunnel."

Well, either that, or long hours of orgiastic sex between a handful of people in a circle (or other configurations). ;)

lol, sounds like your bday party went well :)

Happy birthday, by the way! (Sorry I'm a bit late.)

Cool. But I'm guessing the people in the circle didn't know each other that closely.

I usually prefer it that way. Parties should be all about meeting new people, and getting to know old ones better. If you already know each other too well then it kind of defeats the purpose.
