optical illusion

Hard to believe, but these lines are all straight and parallel!

Things not so good on the job front now---> latest email from SLAC-dude: "I'm having a much more difficult time than I thought, securing funding and office space for you. But I am still trying. It does not look good."

They look obviously parallel to me. However, the little trapezoidal-like shapes seem to be shifting back and forth as I watch them. It makes me want to wallpaper my apartment with that image and invite over a willing subject for an experiment called "what does the person on acid see?"

Now that's interesting... they don't move for me at all, no matter how I look at it. But they look like they are curved up and down drastically. If I focus really hard on a couple lines, I can tell they aren't curved, but they still look slanted up or down, alternating each rung!

This must mean that different people perceive visual images differently on a basic level. Not a big surprise, but really cool to find out!

Anyone else care to describe what it looks like for comparison?

Oh, and by the way, there are no trapezoids in the figure... they are all squares. Which means that you must be perceiving some slanting one way or another, for you to call them trapezoids. :)
